Other breeds used in creating the Dogo Argentino were Boxer, Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, Spanish Mastiff, Pointer, Bull Terrier, Old English Bulldog, Irish Wolfhound and Dogue de Bordeaux. The first standard for the new breed was accepted in 1928. In the USA, this breed was unknown till the 1970s. Some Dogo Argentina dogs are still illegally used for fighting in some countries.
