Dogo Argentinos - Breed HistoryDogo Argentino Dogs were the dream of Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez and his brother Agustin. In 1925, Antonio conceived a vision of an ideal companion and guardian, and superior big game hunter - agile and able enough to persue wild boar and large cats through the rough Argentino terrain.Combining ten different breeds, each for their own unique qualities. The Fighting Dog of Cordoba, now extinct, was the basis of the breed. Then the Pointer was added for a keen sense of smell, which is essential to the hunt; the Boxer for vitality and gentle nature; the Bull Terrier for fearlessness; the Great Dane for size; the Bulldog for depth of chest and bold attitude; the Great Pyrenees for white color-easily seen during hunts; the Spanish Mastiff for power; the Irish Wolfhound for wild game hunting instincts; and the Dogue de Bordeaux for powerful jaws. The dog was considered a fighting dog, but the breed soon showed great hunting skills and quickly became a "big game hunting dog." In time, the adaptability of this dog has made it a noble companion and loyal protector of those that it loves. Its strength, tenacity, bravery and keen sense of smell has made it one of the best dogs used for hunting wild boar and other predators. Its stability, balance and excellent athletic muscles allow it to endure long treks over rugged terrain and then fight fiercely with its pursued prey. In 1964, the Federacion Cinologica Argentina recognized the breed and, in 1973, the Federation Cynologique Internationale accepted Dogo Argentinos as the first and only Argentinian breed.
